Growing Together with the Braves Foundation and NAPA
Words can hardly do justice to the passion, drive, and community spirit during My Green Earth’s Miniature Mableton Food Forest Workday, hosted in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the Atlanta Braves Foundation. This event was not just about planting trees: it was about nurturing a vision for a healthier, greener, and more connected Mableton.
The day began with a huge hoorah! as more than 40 volunteers gathered in the neighborhood, greeted with fresh coffee and energy from Dunkin’, ready to roll up their sleeves. Before the work began, volunteers learned about the rich history of the surrounding community: a space shaped and strengthened through years of collaboration between Habitat for Humanity and local residents. Together, these efforts have built not only homes, but lasting opportunities for stewardship and sustainability.
After a brief neighborhood tour, participants visited the Miniature Food Forest, where My Green Earth guided a walk highlighting how the space has evolved both ecologically and socially since its inception. With such strong turnout, the team introduced several new native and edible species, including blueberries, serviceberries, and pollinator favorites like Georgia asters and Joe Pye weed. These plantings will continue to improve biodiversity, soil health, and long-term food access within the community.
This collaboration stands as a living example of what’s possible when organizations unite around shared values of service, equity, and environmental health. The Atlanta Braves Foundation’s support played a pivotal role in amplifying the day’s impact, helping provide the resources and visibility needed to strengthen this growing network of community greenspaces.
