Mountain View Elementary, thanks to the generous support of their PTA, launched a classroom recycling program last school year, diverting 7,278 pounds from the landfill. That's equivalent to removing 5 cars from the road for an entire year!
As a new school year begins, let's take a moment to commend Mountain View Elementary for committing to continue recycling in their classrooms. Mountain View Elementary, thanks to the generous support of their PTA, launched a classroom recycling program during the 2022/2023 school year, diverting 7,278 pounds of waste from the landfill. Recycling saves energy, and MVES saved the equivalent of 2,561 gallons of gasoline by recycling last school year. From an environmental impact perspective, that is equivalent to removing 5 cars from the road for an entire year!
The introduction of recycling practices in the classrooms not only demonstrates the school's commitment to environmental conservation but also equips their students with lifelong skills for responsible resource management.
Teaching children the importance of recycling goes beyond mere environmental awareness. It lays the foundation for a broader sense of responsibility towards the planet and its limited resources. By engaging students in recycling initiatives, MVES has provided them with a tangible way to actively contribute to the betterment of the environment.
Beyond that, instilling recycling habits in children early on can lead to a ripple effect within families and communities. Children often act as powerful change agents, inspiring their parents, siblings, and peers to adopt eco-friendly practices. As young minds internalize the principles of resourcefulness and sustainability, they are more likely to carry these values into adulthood, effecting positive change on a larger scale. MVES's dedication to recycling in its classrooms sets a commendable example for K-12 schools in Cobb County.
